Impact of Hydrogen Mixture on Fuel Consumption and Exhaust Gas Emissions in a Truck with Direct-Injection Diesel Engine

Hydrogen addition affects the composition of exhaust gases in vehicles. However, effects hydrogen to compression ignition engines running vehicles have not been evaluated. Hydrogen-mixed air was introduced into intake a truck equipped with direct-injection diesel engine and on chassis dynamometer investigate effect fuel consumption gas components. The reduction increase energy share (HES) showed almost linear dependence, where percentage decrease is approximately 0.6 × HES. CO2 one-to-one relationship consumption. emissions CO, PM, hydrocarbons (except for ethylene) had one or larger correlation On other hand, it observed that NOx increased, 1.5~2.0 times requirement total supply more when added than alone. In actual mode, only 50% used power truck. As no adjustments were made this experiment, possible disadvantage could be improved by adjusting combustion conditions.
